Fashion is as old as mankind itself. This is because, since time immemorial, man has often prepared and put on the attire of different kinds. The modern fashion started taking shape in the 1600s in Western Europe. This period saw the abandonment of the ruff and the continued acceptance of the broad lace as the standard for royalty. For the female attire, the timeframe saw the diminished acceptance of the wide and high-waistlines in favor of the long vertical line.
The modern fashion in the sense we understand fashion today though is generally considered to be founded by one Mr. Charles Frederick Worth. He was an English fashion designer who also doubles up as the founder of House of Worth. This is the first fashion storehouse and was constructed in the latter half of the 1800s.
Before constructing this fashion store, he made dresses anonymously using the dresses that were worn by the royalty as the fashion standard against which to make his own dress. He is also credited as the father of the haute couture kinds of dresses. After the construction of the first fashion storehouse in the latter half of the 1800s, several others followed suit. Many entrepreneurs and fashion enthusiasts came in and opened their own fashion stores. It witnessed the construction of many garment factories that were concerned with one kind of attire at a time.
At just about the same time, fashion parades started being held across several cities of the world. Paris, which is also hailed as the fashion capital of the world, held the first fashion parade of that kind. The American fashion retailers followed suit closely. They imported the concept of a fashion show at the start of the 1900s. This culminated in the first show that was held in the New York City store in 1902 by the Ehrlich Brothers.
Today, fashion has been accepted by many a people and culture across the world. Indeed, regardless of the city or locality, you happen to visit, you will find its own version of the fashion shows and unique kinds of attire.
The modern fashion comes in two main shades. These are the ready-to-wear and the haute couture, respectively. The ready-to-wear kinds of attire are just that. They come readymade and do not require any further modifications to be able to utilize. The haute couture, on the other hand, is more expensive and is made as per the unique expectations of the individual customer.
The field of fashion is constantly changing. This is because of the rapidly changing fashion tastes and preferences of the various individuals. It is also brought about by increased creativity, intense competition, and the ever-changing lifestyle environments. The very many fashion designers who enter the field year in year out also have a role to play in the evolution of fashion as we know it.
Because of these, the kinds of attire that are widely accepted today may not necessarily remain so in future. This calls for constant updates and follow-ups.
